C. Creegan de Chamorro
Solymar, a small beach complex located in San Diego, Pacific Coast, Nicaragua, is a serene place to go if you want to enjoy the outdoors and plan on getting away from it all. The drive there takes you along country roads surrounded by tall trees, acres of sugarcane, farm animals, glimpses of one of many regional rivers, and small haciendas.
With a large cool rancho, an outdoor kitchen and a comfortable bedroom and bathroom bungalow, the ambiance invites you to slow down, unwind and go back in time when life was more simple and quiet.
My favorite activities are leisurely walks on the beach, exploring the wildlife at 3 estuaries close by, collecting shells and rocks, playing table games with close friends or family members, reading a novel in a hammock, enjoying an afternoon nap, and cooling off in the ocean. Although meals, snacks and beverages need to be thoughtfully planned out as you are far away from supermarkets, or with the property manager’s meal options, once that is established, you will enjoy dining oceanfront, with views of pelicans, sunsets, fishing boats and monarch butterflies that seek out the colorful garden sprinkled with tropical flowers, shade trees and cacti. If you are fortunate, you may see a whale in the horizon during certain months. I appreciate knowing that a security guard and cooking assistant are available.
If you have experience with the outdoors and want to enjoy a few days at a tropical beach homestead, I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to go back.
